Leipzig Veterinary Congress: Scientific Programme Showcases Diversity in Veterinary Medicine

With more than 500 lectures, symposia and courses, 13th Leipzig Veterinary Congress (15 to 17 January 2026) offers a comprehensive platform for continuing education and interdisciplinary dialogue across the veterinary profession. The scientific programme brings together expertise from all veterinary fields and welcomes practising veterinarians, researchers, academic professionals, public officials, veterinary nurses and students. The majority of sessions are held in German. Selected content is available in English, and international participants are warmly invited to engage with one of the largest veterinary communities in Europe.

“This is a unique opportunity to unite veterinary knowledge from across sectors and specialisations,” says Professor Dr Uwe Truyen, President of the Leipzig Veterinary Congress. “The programme is developed collaboratively by scientists and practitioners. It offers high-level content that reflects the diversity of our profession and encourages exchange across disciplines.”

Wide-Ranging Topics and Global Involvement

The programme spans more than 20 specialist fields, covering topics such as small animal medicine, equine health, farm animals, public health and food safety, zoo and wildlife medicine, veterinary ethics, parasitology, toxicology and animal welfare.

A total of over 100 international speakers from 22 countries will contribute to the scientific programme. Participating nations include Finland, Hungary, the United States, Portugal, the Netherlands, Denmark, Belgium, Austria and Switzerland. This strong international participation underscores the congress’s expanding role as a leading European platform for veterinary science.

International Highlight: ICERM

A key international feature will be the 13th International Conference on Equine Reproductive Medicine (ICERM), taking place on 17 January 2026. The English-language conference features 19 lectures by leading experts from Europe and the United States, with a focus on stallion management, assisted reproduction and periparturient care in mares.

New: European Conference on Veterinary and Medical Education

Taking place on 16 and 17 January 2026, the new European Conference on Veterinary and Medical Education is aimed at international university lecturers in veterinary medicine. Held in English, the programme explores current challenges in veterinary training, from integrating practising veterinarians into teaching to balancing educational quality with limited resources. Topics include flipped-classroom formats, student education in bovine practice and the use of laboratory animals in training.

Connecting Knowledge and Industry

Held in parallel with the congress, vetexpo europe is Central Europe’s largest veterinary trade fair. Over 300 exhibitors will showcase the latest developments in pharmaceuticals, diagnostics, practice management, medical technology and digital solutions. It serves as a key meeting point for professional exchange and business development, bringing together suppliers, manufacturers and service providers from across the DACH region. The combination of scientific insight and industry innovation provides excellent networking opportunities for key stakeholders throughout the veterinary sector.
