Epilepsy in dogs - Special diet can reduce seizure frequency.

Dietary nutrition with medium-chain triglycerides reduces seizure frequency in over 70% of dogs - this is the result of a clinical study conducted by the Veterinary College London in collaboration with the pet food manufacturer PURINA: A ketogenic diet with medium-chain triglycerides (MCT) can significantly reduce seizure frequency in dogs or even eliminate seizures completely. For example, 71 percent of dogs suffering from idiopathic epilepsy displayed a reduction in seizure frequency as early as within a 90-day period during which they were fed a test diet with MCT oil in addition to veterinary treatment. In 48 percent of the dogs, seizure frequency was even reduced by 50 percent or more. Seizures were eliminated completely in14 percent of the dogs.

PRO PLAN NC NeuroCare by PURINA offers a diet based on the findings of this exclusive study. It is the first and only dog food containing 6.5% MCT (medium-chain triglycerides). These provide an alternative source of energy for the brain and, together with selected neuroprotective nutrients in PURINA PRO PLAN NC NeuroCare, can thus help to support the brain health and cognitive function of older dogs. PURINA PRO PLAN VETERINARY DIETS has been specially developed for veterinarians.
